

Often the names we give to those teams and the
mascots we select for them tell us a good deal about who we are.
For example, the Beet Diggers’ teams come
from regions where sugar beets are grown. Tarpon Springs, Florida
hosts teams named the Spongers
because that’s a local industry.
And what about High School teams like the Thunder
Chickens , Clippers,
and Hubbers?
